Extending Vocabulary (1V)

When entering new surroundings or meeting new people we enter a phase of inquiry. When that happens we ask questions, we investigate; we become determined to familiarize ourselves. That is what inquiry is. It’s a search for knowledge. Coming to college is nerve wreaking to some because they are leaving their comfort zone and leaving everything they know to come to a new place. For the people who want to dorm they have to adapt to living with a someone they barley know.

This word relates to class in the sense that we are in college, no more high school. There are going to be changes in the classroom because we now need to think and behave like college students. We are going to be exposed to different type of work and we are going to be asked to do different things with assignments. Our minds want to learn more and that exactly what we should do.

Don't be scared, instead learn what you can do to succeed this year.

2 new vocabulary words I came across in my history book while reading the first chapter:
Allotted: to divide or distribute by share or portion.
Surmount: to prevail over, to be on top or above.

The Other Bloggers (1B)

Looking through some of the interesting and creative blogs out on the internet I see what kind of style I want to make my blog to be similar to. Each one has its one personality and tells the story of that author or in some case of other people. For me I think that the appearance of the blog sends a message to your brain right away. I want people to look at my blog and feel warm and welcomed to read what I have to say. Therefore I choose the nature- like theme for my blog.
One blog I came across was dark and had an edgy theme to it. It was a fashion blog. Some things I noticed were that it didn't have a lot of writing of personal input. It was simply just a blog that had pictures of models on the runway for people to see. The pictures said a lot so a summary of the picture wouldn't really be necessary.
The next blog I looked at was a cooking blog. The vibe I got from the blog was very natural, because most of the foods recipes and “how to’s” were foods that were organic and healthy. The author had tons of pictures of the final product of the recipe and some picture of the individual ingredients it needed. Some had links to other website that showed you how to make it and it had a “you might like” category.

I think that some pictures speak for themselves and so on my blog I want to incorporate more pictures and link that have a connection with the topic of my blog. It makes it more interesting and gives the readers a visual when reading your blog and what you have to say about it. Also posting personal thoughts and opinions on things can make my blog stand out more and create its own voice for everyone to hear.

Here's a link to the animal blog, check it out!

Glow Party (1I)

SCUS recently held a Dance Party as a part of Welcome Weekend. They quickly spread the word and had a good amount of kids show up. The Glow Party was now the word around campus and everyone was planning on going. 9 pm to l am no entrance after 11 pm. Sounded like a great time and it wouldn't hurt to stop by and see what it would be like. Walking over the bridge from the dorms you could already see the party. Crazy lights everywhere, crowds of people, so much going on it was all so inviting! Felt just like one of my clubs in new haven. I forgot we were at the university. The music had you dancing and wanting to go in the middle of the dance floor and party the night away. Just looking around everyone was having a blast! No one was planning on leaving anytime soon. The atmosphere was just exciting! Even if you didn't know how to dance just letting loose and having fun was all it took. I think that music really makes or breaks the event and I have to say that they really exceeded my expectations. If the beat is good and the music screams party then mission accomplished Mr.DJ.

My friends and I like being friendly and social. We went up to random groups of friends and started dancing with them. It’s really amazing to see how talent some kids are at dancing! Makes me wonder how people can move like that. The best is when people crowd around to see some people bust out some cool dance moves. Overall the event is so much fun for all types of people. If you missed out on this event make sure you go to the next one. Get some friends together and make it a night to remember.

Ready, Set, College (1A)

College is the next step high school graduates take in order to pursue in the career field they have chosen or will discover. It provides you with courses that are necessary for your major. However, it is also the time to live and experience new things and meet new people. You have this new sense of freedom but with that freedom there needs to be discipline. Just because you have so much freedom doesn't mean that you can use and abuse that power. i believe that you need to equal balance your freedom and how much effort and time you put into school with that freedom. So many people have told me that this year is very important because once you get a low GPA it’s difficult to get it back up. Therefore I strive to focus on my studies then go out and have fun. Academically I think college should be taken seriously. I’m not paying a lot of money to just go out and party. I’m here to get educated for my future, along the way I will go out with friends and have a good time but as of right now I am focused on my studies.
Eager and excited student come from many different places here to Southern Connecticut State University. New faces, new personalities, new people. It’s really exciting to meet new friends and see new faces and some familiar ones here and there. Best part is that this is your chance to start new again. Be a different person than you were in high school or be the same. It’s your second chance to show people a new and improved you. You get a whole new reputation and it’s on you how you take that and show people who you really are.

When starting school I have such a positive attitude. It’s another year where I can change my bad habits and create better ones. College is a big deal and I do want to do really well this year so the goals I have set for myself are not to procrastinate, have thing ready on time, fully understand materials I am reading, and try to not miss any classes. I think that these are goals I can reach and keep fulfilling throughout the year.
