What is Purpose (13V)

Purpose Definition: the reason for which something is done or created or for which something is exists.

I am a believer of “everything happens for a reason”. I think that we go through the experiences we do to learn lessons. Those lessons bring us closer to our purpose in life. No one really knows what his or her purpose is, and no one should spend time worrying about finding it because it will come to you. People need to live their lives however they want as long as they are happy with mostly every aspect of it.

I don’t really know what my purpose in life is, but then again who does? All we need is an idea of something we want to do in life and take off with that dream. Somewhere along the way we will hit a wall that will take lead us in the right direction. We have to make sure we listen to that little voice inside our heads because that is the voice of reason. If that little voice says no, then maybe it’s for the best. If that little voice says yes, then go for it!

One day, it hit me that I wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to inspire kids, and be around them all the time. They bring me a joy like no other thing in the world. From that moment I knew that I had to put time into that major and see if it was really for me. I’m not in the Education School yet but when I am I will see if that’s what I really want to do. I have a really strong feeling that it is my purpose in life. I need to be an inspiration to children, their role model, and their guidance. I feel like it is my calling and if it’s not then somewhere down the road my true purpose will call out to me.

Applying Creativity (13B)

Any opportunity I get to express myself I take it. Video Projects tend to be something I like to do. When it comes to working with iMovie there are so many things you can do with it. You can add your favorite kind of music, special themes, colors, effects, etc. With our last project I loved how my final product came out, but I could spend hours working on it and changing things. So this time around I am going to make my video project a little more creative.

I am doing myproject on ways to stay healthy and fit during college. The big talk about college is the amount of weight you will gain because of the food. Everyone always told me that I have to be careful because most kids gain about 15 pounds or more in their first year of college. I was so scared at the thought of me gaining weight, so I made it my goal to not be able to gain. That is my main goal this year, I want to be able to stay on top of school and stay healthy! This topic really is something I can relate to and know a lot about through personal experience. Doing this project will be fun, and easy for me because I know that there are ways to stay healthy in college if you follow some guidelines and stick to them.

Some of the possible solutions that will be mentioned in my video include, not ordering out often, watching what you eat, balancing diet and exercise, and knowing body limits at the gym and when eating. What I plan on doing with these solutions is showing the audience what they should do and what they should not through skits. Then I will have a voice over telling the audience research, and facts about foods and why you should eat healthy. Also I plan on having 2 main characters throughout the movie that will play the roles of college students but, one will make the right choices and the other will not.

I plan on going into Conn and showing all they options they have to offer, and the types of food people should be eating on a daily basis, and the foods they should try to stay away from. I will walk through the salad bar, pizza area, grill, Not only that, but I will take a look at all the possible take out restaurants and talk about that briefly.

Most importantly my main goal in this video is to make it fun, and exciting with lots of creative touch to it. I really want my audience to see how easy it is to stay healthy without lecturing them on the do’s and don’ts on college eating habits. My skits will be funny and have a comedic twist to it. At the same time I do want to inform the audience about a few points. I say a few, because the last thing I want is to bore them to death. So far this is what I have planned out but is most likely bound to change when get further into the process.

Registration! (13I)

While everyone was freaking out about registration months ago, I was calm and ready to face this madness. No one could really prepare us for registration but actually going through it. I must say it was one of the more stressful mornings I’ve had in a while.

I had prepared myself for the worst; I made multiple schedules as a back up. I chose classes that were all in the morning, some in the afternoon, and then I made one with all night classes. It was a disaster trying to make schedules work, but I did it!

Every day I would check up on available classes to see what my options were. I felt like I was prepared for registration day and had a back up plan just in case my first option couldn’t work. I plugged my computer in to its charger and went to bed early, ready for the soon to be hectic morning.

5:30 am dawns upon my roommate and I, she wakes up in a panic and so did I. I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to get a working schedule or one I liked. I logged onto Banner Web and the server didn’t let us put in our pins until 6:00am. It was so early, so I left my computer on and tried to rest up before 6 am. 5:50 am, I go onto my computer and try to put in my pin and the page says “Error.” That was the moment where panic began to sink in. I got a pit feeling in my stomach because the server wasn’t working on my computer. From 5:50 am to about 6:45 am the server rejected me. I was so worried all my classes were taken and I wouldn’t get into the classes I wanted. My fears came to be a reality; all my classes were taken up except one. I had to look up what classes were left. It was such a struggle but eventually I got a pretty decent schedule.

I wish that there could be a way where we could prepare better for registration. I had no idea what to expect, and what I went through was not something I had in mind. I didn’t know where to put in the classes I wanted, or how anything worked. It was an experience I’ll never forget. But, man oh man, was that morning stressful.

Applying College Level Thinking (13A)

How will I involve college level thinking into my video project, you ask? Well my answer to that is by asking the audience inquiry type questions! I will post questions throughout the video to get them thinking about it and at the end I will discuss what I came up with to answer the questions. It’s important to keep the audience interested, and by presenting questions that make them really think, is a good way catch their attention and keep it.

Some questions I have started to:

-      -If people aren’t motivated to live a healthy lifestyle, what can they do to get themselves motivated and maintain that motivation?

-       -Why do people make excuses?

-       -Why don’t schools try to eliminate the innutritious foods, and supply us with the nutrition we need?

Giving the viewer these questions will get them thinking and then throughout my presentation. Then they will see the main points I bring to their attention and keep that in consideration when I propose the questions again. Providing the audience with research and evidence about food and health will allow them to create ideas and opinions to my questions.

In my media class, we discussed how people come to the conclusion of their own beliefs, and opinions. One of the ways they are persuaded is through evidence. Hard evidence allows people to take their stance on a situation. For example, someone might strongly believe that people are made the way they were meant to be. If women or men have a larger build, one person may think that, that is perfectly normal. While another person may think that person needs a healthier lifestyle. There is a huge difference between being too skinny, fit, and over weight. In my video I hope to provide my audience a better understand of food, exercise, and what a healthy lifestyle is.
